Algarve blues and rock band The Upper Crusties play blues, rock, soul and R’n'B classics. Based in the west of the Algarve, they play their high-octane flavour of rock and blues at parties, events and bars in the Algarve, Portugal and southern Spain.
The band have their origins in 2006 when founder members Stuart, Mirek and David got together to play some blues to pass the winter evenings. Enjoying themselves immensely, they swiftly gathered a couple more musicians together and did some local gigs under the name of the Campo Crusties. In 2007 they were joined by legendary old timer Roger Chucklefoot on vocals and harmonica, the band rapidly gaining a loyal following in the west Algarve.
The current line up dates from 2009, when Brendan replaced Roger as front man. This line up gigged successfully from 2009 and through 2010, building a solid reputation as one of the most enjoyable and popular live acts in the Algarve. In February 2011, the Campo Crusties played their final gig to a capacity crowd and a rapturous reception – and within a few weeks had swapped their muddy boots for shiny spats, Special Brew for a decent claret, and were reborn as The Upper Crusties.
